Clancy’s serves up great food and lots of fun in Somers Point

PRESS RELEASE January 15, 2014

By ELISA LALA, At The Shore | Press of Atlantic City

Are you wondering how Clancy’s By the Bay maintains a full house on a winter weekday? According to manager Kathy Angela, the trick is serving a side of fun with the food.

The bar and restaurant, located over the Longport Bridge in Somers Point, hosts weekly karaoke nights, live bands and DJs, as well as football specials and dance parties weekly.

Clancy’s is owned by Joe Villari, an experienced restaurateur who also owns three other Clancy’s — Clancy’s By the Sea on the Ocean City Boardwalk, Clancy’s Pub in Brooklawn and another Clancy’s Pub in Sewell.

Villari opened Clancy’s by the Bay, the newest of the bunch located on E. Maryland Avenue, with the goal of providing a year-round shore spot for the people who crave more than three months of the salt air.

“It’s perfect for his clientele, many of whom come from the Sewell, Washington Township, area where he’s from,” Angela says of Villari.

Angela describes Clancy’s by the Bay as a casual pub atmosphere which is made up of three separate sections — an upscale dining room, a bar area and an enclosed patio which opens up in the summer.

The bar section has booths and hightop tables and is surrounded by more than 25 flat screen TVs with happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and NFL playoff and gameday specials, including $2.50 Coors Light bottles and drafts and $5 Pickle Back and Red Bull drinks.

Weekly entertainment:

Clancy’s By the Bay hosts live music Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, as well as karaoke with Lori Kelley 8 p.m. Tuesdays.

This week’s lineup includes The Deck Band on Thursday, DJ Steve and Company on Friday and DJ Nick Teti on Saturday.

Some of the popular bands that perform at Clancy’s include The Offenders, a band made up of five local lawyers, Thirsty Wilson and Who’s Dat Band. Thirsty Wilson will be performing at Clancy’s Thursday, Jan. 30.

Upcoming event:

The Somers Point Jazz Society is hosting “The Bob Perkins Jazz Mixer” at Clancy’s 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26. The event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at the door.
